TREASURER’S REPORT
Treasurer was not in attendance.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

·        No unfinished business was brought forth.

CITY CORNER

·        No City Corner presentation was highlighted.

NEW BUSINESS

·        Bob Payne brought a new CSST handout for distribution.

·        Eric Tolles discussed the Fire Chiefs Survey to the City Managers.  The Cal Chiefs Board Meeting was scheduled for 5/14/03 and was not open to the public.  He urged Building Officials to contact their City Managers.

NEW COMMUNICATIONS

·        Jon Traw discussed theater stair handrails and while ramps are exempt, steps/stairs do not have such an exemption.  It’s a loophole, but never the less, causes an unjustified provision to exist.

·        Jon Traw also discussed bedroom escapes opening onto conventional patio covers as opposed to pre-fab open patios which are only open for purposes of light and air.  Many surveyed felt open patios were O.K. to exit onto, however, a cover is not a yard or court and does not technically comply.  Jon will report back on Laguna Wood’s Council action regarding a patio resolution.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

·        LA Basin Structural Committee

Henry Huang discussed some key differences in the ’97 UBC v.s. the 2000 and 2003 IBC.  After making his point that many changes occurred without basis, and that many non-seismic changes have occurred, he urged members to participate in the Structural Committee.  Henry also mentioned that SEAOC is developing a format for SBSC structural changes.

CALBO

Jim Martin gave the Calbo update.

·           Calbo is “watching” the PEX issue since it will be fairly stagnant pending outcome of the appeal.

·           Read calbo.org for Daryl Willey’s most recent state-of-the            Calbo article.

·                 May 2 meeting of the Fire Advisory Board had a vote 8 to 4 in favor of NFPA.

·                 The Drywall Information Trust Fund came out officially in support of the I-codes.

·                 Post Disaster Training will be held in Irvine June 16 and 18.

·                 A Calbo Board Meeting was scheduled the following day 5-9-03 in San Diego.

·                 July  13 or 14 the SBSC will make the final decision on which model code will be used for the basis of the next CBC.

·                 May 29 the Fire & Life Safety Board will make its final recommendation to the S.F.M.

PROGRAM

·        Larry Brugger moderated the ISO presentation as well as presented a program before turning it over to Ralph Doreo of ISO.  An Executive Summary of the presentation is attached for anyone who was unable to attend.
