Corner presentation was highlighted.
· Bob Payne brought a new CSST handout for distribution.
·
Eric Tolles discussed the Fire Chiefs Survey to
the City Managers. The Cal Chiefs
Board Meeting was scheduled for
· Jon Traw discussed theater stair handrails and while ramps are exempt, steps/stairs do not have such an exemption. It’s a loophole, but never the less, causes an unjustified provision to exist.
· Jon Traw also discussed bedroom escapes opening onto conventional patio covers as opposed to pre-fab open patios which are only open for purposes of light and air. Many surveyed felt open patios were O.K. to exit onto, however, a cover is not a yard or court and does not technically comply. Jon will report back on Laguna Wood’s Council action regarding a patio resolution.

LA Basin
Structural Committee
Henry Huang
discussed some key differences in the ’97 UBC v.s. the 2000 and 2003 IBC. After making his point that many changes
occurred without basis, and that many non-seismic changes have occurred, he
urged members to participate in the Structural Committee. Henry also mentioned that SEAOC is
developing a format for SBSC structural changes.
CALBO
Jim Martin
gave the Calbo update.

Calbo is “watching” the
PEX issue since it will be fairly stagnant pending outcome of the
appeal.

May 2
meeting of the Fire Advisory Board had a vote 8 to 4 in favor of
NFPA.

The Drywall
Information Trust Fund came out officially in support of the
I-codes.

Disaster Training will be held in

A Calbo
Board Meeting was scheduled the following day
·
July 13 or 14 the
SBSC will make the final decision on which model code will be used for the basis
of the next CBC.
·
May 29 the
Fire & Life Safety Board will make its final recommendation to the
S.F.M.
·
Larry
Brugger moderated the ISO presentation as well as presented a program before
turning it over to Ralph Doreo of ISO.
An Executive Summary of the presentation is attached for anyone who was
unable to attend.
